A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a shield blazoned: Or, a saltire between four mullets Azure (Dark Blue) bearing a sword and quill in saltire Argent hilted of the first. Attached below the shield a Red scroll doubled and inscribed "EXCELLENCE STARTS HERE" in Gold.
Dark blue and scarlet are the branch colors of The Adjutant General's Corps; gold is symbolic of excellence. The quill stands for the administration mission of The Adjutant General's Corps and the sword emphasizes the combat readiness of the unit. The saltire is adapted from the Alabama State flag and refers to the location of Fort McClellan and the unit. The four stars represent authority and the unit's primary mission of support to the Active Army, Army National Guard, U.S. Army Reserve and military dependents.
